Hehehe. Mokay, I'll get that sewn up for you.. I'll need some colors, though. And if you want a 2nd ship like Jazz has, that's fine as well, to even things up. Hmm.. Better add to the opposition while I'm at it... :3

I'll stick with one ship for now, as for colors hmmm. Lets go with Grey as the main color and Red for the trim.

SHIT.Well, I put my mind to it, and I min-maxed my way into a ship that pretty much breaks my game, or at least the way that ship ratings are supposed to work. What I wound up with was pretty much a glass cannon, but one that takes advantage of small size and a high power-to-weight ratio to make it hard to hit, and additionally has more speed than I'm comfy with. Side armor is all but nonexistant, but it has a really thick frontal plate, so as long as it's pointed at you it's hard to hurt. It only has one gun, but it's a BIG @#$%^& GUN, big enough to hurt my current capital ships, and absolutely wreck a lighter ship. Anyway, it's imbalanced, but more annoyingly pretty simple to do, with a similarly single-minded strategic use. It has it's weaknesses (it's basically a deathtrap if it takes any significant side or rear fire at all) but it represents a playstyle I don't want for this game. So I'm going to have to do.. Something. I'm not sure what just yet. : / My immediate idea is to add in a 'concussion round' style weapon that does global damage based on the size of the craft, since the ship has to be pretty small for the trick to work. Or I may just alter how I determine ratings, and have to go with a scaled rating system. Or find some other way entirely to rank ships. I'm very today as a result. Especially considering that if I make anything other than subtle changes, I'm going to have to recalc all my ships. Hurgh. But anyway. Demo will continue as planned and I'll get this bullshit sorted out somehow.

NEVERMIND!
I fixed the problem (I'm pretty sure) by adding 2 rules to the building rules.
-The maximum damage of any cannon on the vessel cannot be higher than two times the number of compartments it has. (I.E. a ship with 8 compartments can mount a 16 damage cannon)
- The maximum armor of any bulkhead cannot be higher than 3 times the number of compartments. (I.e an 8 compartment ship can have a maximum armor rating of 24)
I'm leaving engine power unrestricted for now, but that may be limited as well at some point.
Basically this prevents making twinked out little min/max ships with globs of armor or huge weapons. This may not fix the issue with the rating system, but it should mitigate its' effect a little.
The sweet bit is it doesn't invalidate any of my current designs. So huzzah. Crisis averted. I'm going to carry on trying to break my system, of course, but this one one annoying hurdle overcome.

So I figured I would be able to play via my IPhone out here in middle of nowhere Texas were there is practically no signal. 20 minutes ( the time it took to load this page) later I have learned the error of my ways. Sorry folks being at this hunting camp I won't be able to post until late Weds.

Yikes! Well no worries. I figure we can just roll this round w/o you, the Shrike will basically just hover for a round. This was my original plan for dealing with peeps who get their orders in late or otherwise miss the deadline. You obviously have a very good reason for not posting, but I'd like to keep trucking regardless, esp if you're only out till Weds. Everyone is pretty much out of engagement range just yet anyway, so I don't think much harm can come to your ship one way or another... Have fun, though! I've been through Texas but I've never gone hunting.

Speaking of Blood maps.... It actually turns out I have some/all/most/several of them. I went digging for them at some point in the distant past when I had it in my head to try to see if I could get Blood to run on my computer anymore and I just rediscovered them this morning...So I have:
8xantigrav.zip 8xbomberman.zip 8xboom.zip 8xoverkill.zip blackout.zip boing.zip clonelab.zip cultbase.zip doom.zip napalmtag.zip purge.zip Ravensch.zip Spirally.zip subspace.zip
I can post them to Dropbox or somewhere if ya want 'em. I'm not sure if that was all of them or not.

;D
Huzzah!
Ehehe.. Memories!
And sure.. I have no idea where the hell I'd find a copy of blood, but yeah, that could be cool. The only thing I remember doing that I don't see in ye list is one I did as a single player map that was a fortress (Not Purge, I remember that one) but then I don't really remember what I called that, so it may be in there as well...
Edit: Oh.. maybe it was Cultbase I was thinking of... And there was one flying one I could never really get working properly...

Yeah, I remember there being more, too, but those were the ones I could track down. I actually found them on an old website I built while at Johnston. Blood is officially "abandonware" so if you Google blood and abandonware, you can probably find a copy around the 'nets. I found one here: www.abandonware-paradise.org/download-Moonstone-867.htmlOf course, I don't even remember where to put the old maps

So, survey says with some DosBox (www.dosbox.com) tweaking, you can run Blood. I couldn't get that first link to work, but I found a torrent on Demonoid that was preconfigured with DosBox that works & then I created shortcuts straight to the maps. If you're on Demonoid and want a link, I can send it. I think Atari's reclaimed the rights to the Blood franchise, and so it's not technically "abandonware" anymore (though some abandonware sites still host it), but if you wanted to get a legit copy, it's floating around for about 5 bucks. I'm pretty sure with a little configgering (changing paths and such), my DosBox shortcuts would probably work for you, so I could send you those if you wanted.

Hmmn.. Well if it'll be any trouble for you then I wouldn't worry about it too much.. I don't rally expect that I'd do much more than tool around the maps for like 15 mins for nostalgia's sake then call it a day.. It's rad you still have them, though. ;D
