*Would like to point out that, barring special circumstances, he's generally never used any color other than the forum defaults for RP, and never caught on fire or exploded or anything.*

I generally do it for dialog in case we've got speed readers or anything, also helps if I want to return to something and remember what the character said really quick.

As the crew of the Bethesda followed the Stormchild's obnoxious captain to where they would be eating, Marty edged himself carefully toward the front of the line. As quietly as he could he unholstered his pistol, aimed at the small of her back, and fired.

Just a heads up, today's a really busy day at work, so I won't be posting much. If it comes to it to move the story along, Tom will just do what Claire tells him to.

It's not my intention to have Heloise shoot Dex. She's just feeling really empty and alone. All she has to cling to is family pride. It's really the only thing that keeps her going.

Naaaah it's cool. It is part of what we're here for. As for the massing points to buy your way out of trouble count.. well the 40 points you have so far are enough to buy 8 stat points in anything. Which is a significant increase, but probably not enough to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. If it were more like 100CP for a 20 point increase, that could cause problems. If I felt inclined to fix it I could say that you're only allowed to buy 5 points of any stat on any given turn. While (in game terms) this would still amount to a sudden increase in skill, it pretty much rules out blowing all your stats in an attempt to pass a particular roll. Remember also in game terms the stat increases only go into effect after the current round is over. (I only note them once I've included them in upkeep. So doing something like: 'I buy 20 points of Marskmanship then shoot that guy" just won't work. The shot would be made with your current skill level, and THEN your skill would be adjusted to +20 at the end of the round. The other facet of this is if you blow a wad of CP in order to fix an immediate problem, chances are it's going to be in an area your character doesn't do often, (otherwise you'd already have the points invested there) which means you'd wind up with a bunch of points in an area that's probably outside your specialty and may not see much use in the future. The other other facet is while you have those points stored as CP, they aren't doing anything for your character. SO while one is socking them away for whatever rainy day then envision, their rolls in the present are less potent than they could be. 20 points of Chef, for instance, results in a guaranteed extra point of morale every day as well as a guaranteed extra point of Str/Agi/Tough. Anyway. While I don't expect CP-pooling would really be a game-breaking phenomenon, I may as well write in the 5 point per round stat buying limit and snip that in the bud. ...Unless you really want to go ahead and see how well it works or doesn't. -------------- Hehe.. and yeah, I sensed you were going to do something really different with Kenneth.. one thing I did notice if that you went with an introverted, which of course set off all kinds of loud buzzing sounds and bright flashing lights because that's usually a mistake newbie RPers make; Make a character who sits and broods in the corner not saying anything.. And then later get upset and discouraged because nobody is talking to them... However I have it on good authority that you aren't a newbie roleplayer, so I didn't say anything. But regardless, between Ken's self-centric demeanor and some shorter posts (which I totally understand are the result of a tight schedule, never fear.) It makes it a little harder for him to get CP than say, Claire who is in a leadership role and therefore gets to talk a lot and also often gets bonuses for moving the story along. As usual with your writing, though, you have a way of sticking in little things that somehow perfectly explain something about your character. And I think you've picked up a few points that way. Really the purpose of CP though is to encourage everyone to post, not so much for themselves but for the entertainment of the group as a whole, since that's really why we're here (though we all also like reading our own text, I know that, definitely, and I suffer terribly from it) We're all here to entertain each other, so CP is designed to reward the people who do a good job of that. ANYWAY. Where I was going with that was; While I don't see the system as unfair to a non-combat-oriented character, it is a bit biased against the quiet and reserved toons. Though there is always inner monologue, so that can be a saving grace if all else fails.

Naaaah it's cool. It is part of what we're here for. I just thought it was funny because that perfectly describes Kenneth. And I now forgive him for positioning himself so that the skinny guy was the meat shield when the native came around (Dexter was planning on hiding behind Kenneth, if it came to it ) Both my character and erin's aren't really cut from traditional RPG fare (they're actually heavily influenced by the BBC series Hustle), and definitely aren't fighty-types. We've both had to make adjustments to how we're playing our characters to really make them work. But we've definitely picked up on the narrative/inner monologue making up for lack of actual interaction (or in other cases, explaining our intentions for the benefit of everyone else).

Okay.. since we're getting a bit into the differences between ships and I realize the players don't have a lot of perspective between one ship and another, I figure I'll lay out the stats for the ships I've build( or have nearly finished) so you can get an idea where things stand:
GLOSSARY: [Bulk: - Overall 'bigness' of the ship. Affects handling and how hard the thing is to hit. [Empty Weight: Weight of just the ship, minus ammunitions, people, supplies, fuel, etc. All calculations are based on this weight. [Max Carry: The total amount of weight the ship can hold and still get aloft. Also a semi-useful measure of leftover horsepower once in flight. [Max Power: The total combined power of the ship's engines. [Firepower: The combined Damage of the ships' cannons, assuming they all fired once and hit their target. [Armor: The total armor from all parts of the vessel. [Crew: The total accomidations for crew, I.E. Bunk space. You can load more people on, they just won't have anywhere to sleep. [Cargo: The total number of Cargo spaces. [Level Speed: Maximum 'straight and level' flight speed. Every 10 k/h equals 1 movement space in combat. [Overspeed: How fast a ship can go before it starts taking structural damage for flying faster than designed. [Max Climb: The maximum vertical ascent rate of the ship. (i.e. powering straight up) Every 1,000 f/m equals 1 Vert in Combat) [Max Range: The furthest the ship can travel on available fuel. [Value: The Cost of the ship in monetary terms.
----------------- Bethesda CONDOR - Prison Variant (Built for.. well.. Cheapness, since they're intended to be mass-produced like tin cans. Has a bit more armor than a transport would usually have. Flies like a brick for the most part.
[Bulk: 100] [Empty Weight: 123.2 Tons] [Max Carry 36.8 Tons] [Max Power : 4000 Hp] [Firepower: 8] [Armor:670] [Crew: 10] [Cargo: 24] [Level Speed: 44.9 K/h] [Max Climb: 1,230 f/m] [Max Range: 8,620 Km] [Value: $45,350]
-------------------- Stormchild VAGABOND Class (Built as a medium cruiser/skirmish/patrol craft. Decently armored in most places, though some others are left intentionally less protected to lower weight. Fast, light ship with a sizeable bite. Has comparatively little ammo, so shoot wisely.)
[Bulk: 120] [Empty Weight: 134.8 Tons] [Max Carry 105.2 Tons] [Max Power : 6000 Hp] [Firepower: 52] [Armor: 930] [Crew: 12] [Cargo: 12] [Level Speed: 69.0 K/h][Overspeed: 100K/h] [Max Climb: 2,300 f/m] [Max Range: 14,904 Km] [Value: $171,850]
--------------------
Lucifer ??????? Class (I know you haven't seen it yet but by reputation I imagine some measure of it's abilities would be known) (Built with an emphasis towards balance in speed, armor and firepower. Has approx 20% higher 'rating' that most of the other ships, meaning it's on average 20% more "effective", and bit heavier/tougher. Good armor coverage in general, though there are one or two intentional weak points in order to try and keep weight down. ...The raw stats don't tell quite the whole story. A lot of what makes the ship good isn't covered by the base stats.)
[Bulk: 130] [Empty Weight: 169.5 Tons] [Max Carry 150.4 Tons] [Max Power : 8000 Hp] [Firepower: 72] [Armor: 1015] [Crew: 12] [Cargo: 12] [Level Speed: 74.4 K/h][Overspeed: 130K/h] [Max Climb: 2,400 f/m] [Max Range: 21,927 Km] [Value: $251,300]
------------------------
GOLIATH Class (Designed basically as a mobile fortress. Huge amounts of armor, many guns and laughably poor speed. Designed around resisting malfunctions and taking a ridiculous amount of damage to put down. I imagine it's use lies in static defense or slow, massed assaults. This fat son of a bitch has 6 turreted guns, 2 furnaces, 2 pressure tanks and 4 damn engines. -_-)
(Stats are Estimates) [Bulk: 250][Empty Weight: 407.6 Tons][Max Carry:???] [Max power: 12000][Firepower: 120][Armor:2,960][Crew:24] [Cargo:10][Level Speed:39.5 K/h][Overspeed: ???][Max Climb: 1,290 f/m] [Max Range: 11,376 Km][Value: ???] ===============================================

Whew.. okay okay okay.. So for those of you paying attention I didn't get the item creation writeup finished yesterday, but as usual I had some ideas and so decided to expand things so I made more work for myself that I intended. I think it's all for the good, though. I'm basically finished with the creation stuff. Did Tailoring, Tinkering, Gunsmithing/Swordsmithing, and Sapping. I'm still noodling just what to do with Pharmacopia and considering adding crafting systems for Medical reagents (Bandages and such) and adding the possibility of fabricating your own ammunition. In any case there have been some changes that will be going into effect when I have things together enough to update. • The term "Accessory" is being replaced with the term "Modification" ...Because it sounds better and is more accurate in most cases >.> Accessories is mentioned in a LOT of laces so it'll take a while to expunge, but that is the official term now. •The crafting system as a whole (Especially tailoring/tinkering) has been simplified. Numbers have been adjusted so that the relative Difficulty/Cost should still be accurate to within a few points in most cases. • Item lists WILL NEED TO BE RECALCULATED... but I'm not going to do that right yet. Any items anyone currently has will be grandfathered with their current stats, and after the current story arc is over I'll re-calc the items (and prob. add some more. people are welcome to hep with this as well) at which point items on character sheets will have to be updated to reflect the current stats.. The differences really should be minor, though. • All instances of Rarity in the crafting system have replaced with Difficulty. Rarity now only exists for storebought items. ..It's technically always been that way, and rarity/difficulty was the result of me straddling the fence for a while since I changed the way I was handling items halfway through. Anyway that has been cleaned up a little in the text If you see Rarity mentioned anywhere in the item creation docs, let me know and I'll sponge it out. • The term "Stat Slots" (when referring to the number of stats or accessories you can put on an item) has been replaced with the term "Sockets" because there's already a few different types of Slots being used in the terminology. Just a cosmetic change to ease confusion. • Sockets and Modifications (Accessories, remember?) are being added for Melee weapons • You can now throw melee weapons using Swashbuckling Stat! Items can be optimized as throwing weapons via use of a Modification. • You can now get a material refund for rolling well on your Item creation roll (up to 25% of the item's value) • Swashbuckling skill is now available on non-weapon Tinkering items via Modification. *cough*KATE*cough* • Several new Modifications are being added (this is what's holding things up, really)

Not a problem. We weren't sure what was up with Del over here in our parts of the world but we both agreed that we needed another body on the crew and his skills in particular, so I was just trying to smoke him out if he was trolling the forums but unsure where to poke his head in.

Weeeellllll... it's maybe not so bad as you might think.
Emi's got a teeny edge in Com Tac (not that that REALLY matters if all that's happening is melee) and she's a bit better in a fight (for those interested, she was rolling at 15 for the first punch because she was unarmed, after she drew her sword it gave her another 10, so +25)
But Emi's main advantage is she's got +30 on Toughness rolls. (20 natural, +10 from items) so you have to hit her HAARRDD because she' going to be soaking a lot of that damage unless she gets some unlucky rolls.
Anyway. It might be tough, but it's not an unwinnable fight by any means. ..Since both toons are pretty balanced it will probably just come down to luck, more or less.
