Dallas West sighs. "Well, I can't say as we have an extra ship...and, pardon me for being selfish, I'm not about to hand over my ship to someone I don't know. Speaking for myself and Captain Whitney over there, we've got one injured bird and I've got a roustie nagging me to get a proper second mechanic. However, when all that's taken care of, I wouldn't be opposed to donating some of our spoils to the cause of getting another ship and a crew that yeh could use. Kail takes a sip from his coffee mulling over the entire affair for a moment longer than could be considered comfortable. He finally speaks looking around to each of the captains and Rosalind.
"Normally I would be inclined to say we spot the boy some money to get him a ship right now, but since we're in this for the long haul, I think we aught to start playing the long game. Consider what we just walked away from, that was the all the force that the Seville Navy could muster right away without taking their time. We give em the time this venture is going to need, and they're going to hit us even harder when next we cross paths.
Don't give me those looks, we will cross paths again. Even if we get the princess sewn up and upright again, you think Peldane will give up his chance for the throne just because we show up at his front doorstep with her? Hell no, he'll have a lie waiting for it, and the worst part is, people will believe him. My point gentlemen is that eventually we're going to have to knuckle against some of the best that the Seville Air Force has to offer, men and machines included. If we don't act now that'll include Kieran's ship and his crew. I say we let him retrieve both, so at the very least they can't be used against us in the future.
What's more you all saw today how a Raven can swing the tide of battle under a proper pilot. Why spend money on one of the shit cans here when we can jack a fully crewed Belle of the Ball out of enemy territory? It'd and give the men on Peldane's side pause and something to think about if a full ship of men up and switched to our side, AND Kieran might be able to get a feel for Peldane's grip on things while he's over there. A gamble to be sure, but one I think that will pay off in the future. Course we can put it to a vote if you want, and I'll hold to what the majority comes to."

Whitney chimes in. "Well, I don't think Dallas was suggesting we do this instead of getting the boy's Raven class, but rather in addition to. There's no question we need to act now and we can't go gallivanting off after his crew whilst our Princess here dies. So, I think the idea was we get a ship and a crew to man it now, get the stuff we need, and be workin' on her while we go off after his crew. In the end we'd have 5 ships, rather than 3. Yeh can't tell me, Kail, that you haven't wanted to command an armada behind the Shrike...
"That said, you're right, it'd be a rush job and the folks and ships we could get at our command here wouldn't be the best. But, another set of guns and eyes is another set of guns and eyes, and you know what they say about two heads bein' better than one."
West gives him a look and says "You best shut yer gob now, you're starting to mix metaphors again." Whitney opens his mouth to say something else, and then closes it again. West continues, "What he said is more or less my thinking, though. But if we want to pack up and head out sooner rather than later, and send our boy off in search of his ship on his own, I wouldn't be opposed."

Rawr! Once you guys get what you want to do with Kieran figured out, (In case of a draw I'll just roll for the result) I think we'll be ready to go do deployment. If it helps any, K is basically asking if he should go off and try to get his ship now, or stick around to help with the current business and -then- go try to get Andalusia back. If you want him around for this thing then he'll still try to get it back later.. It is his ship after all, and he feels sort of useless without it, in the long run. The main difference being what point at the story he winds up returning at and what mission corresponds with it. In the meantime if there's anything else you want to do crew-wise or purchasing-wise, just let me know.

Kail shoots Whitney a loaded look when he brings up the subject of commanding an Armada, West's interjection seems to save the man from a tongue lashing, and Kail lapses back into thought.
"My one worry is that Sevelle catches on to Kieran maintaining his old loyalties and decides to neutralize his crew. If he thinks however that he can assist getting the princess to Mengler, and still have time to procure his ship, then by all means lets outfit him and get him in the sky on our side."
Kail looks to Kieran questioningly. "That sound on sight to you?"

Well. I'm pretty sure any delays at this point are due to timing rather than anything else, but if there's anything anyone needs explained, etc. about deployment of any aspect of ye next mission, feel free to ask away.
In other news, Working on 2 new ships and 1 new compartment type. I also made a variant of the Vagabond that replaces the side-20 with a grapple for boarding other ships. I meant to include it last night but had some technical difficulties.
The new compartment is a cannon control compartment, which adds a bonus to the cannoneering rolls of any cannon within 2 compartments of it. Must be manned. about the biggest bonus you can get is +25 at 5000 rating, but the things are pretty damned expensive. $55,000 for the aforementioned +25 bonus giving one.
ANYWAY. I need to get back to doing vehicle rules, and so hopefully I should be back on that wagon shortly.
Am sort of hoping to get deployment done on Friday, but we'll see where we get to...

Hehe.. Yeah I just expect he's buried under school stuff and whatnot. Actually you tend to do pretty well, non-reading of rules notwithstanding. The whole Kieran thing isn't necessarily just a ploy to give Bren a 2nd ship, though. I wanted to get the plot to a point to where you guys would get to make some choices. This was a relatively minor one, but it's better than nothing at all. Eventually I want to get things to the point where the players can choose from a number of possible targets/missions for where to go/what to do next. One of the things I need to do is make a campaign map... I might start on that tomorrow.. As for the mission at hand.. Well obviously the 1st order of business would probably be getting rid of ye turrets around where you want to land.. After you get Close enough to the compound the map of the place will be revealed. There's pretty much only 1 place in the compound you can land troops, and landing them might take a while (only 1 ship can unload per round, really, so it might help to have most of your ground fighters aboard a single vessel so they can all hop off at once) From there you can have your ship either stay grounded (not usually recommended, since people can climb on) or sort of hover over the compound and shoot cannons at whatever your landing party encounters that it can't deal with itself. Be careful of shooting the main building, though, if you're unlucky you might blow up the thing you came to get. Other than that... Well, if the compound has any air support you may have to deal with that too... (Hint: They totally will and you totally will. so don't compromise your air crew too much by putting EVERYONE on the ground.) Anyway, I think if there's any confusion about how the ground part is supposed to work it'll be cleared up once it gets under way.

Yeah I DO have a plan, and right now I'm trying to put together the ship. Life however I think munches popcorn while it tries to make me dance. No sooner do I start school than my mom has to go in for a biopsy, one of our managers at work goes into a fit of hysterics (leaving us short staffed just when things pick up around here), and my landlord adds a clause to my lease that says I need to pick up liability insurance to continue renting from him. I'm gonna aim to have up the specifics later today.

It's cool, it's cool. And please don't think I'm making fun of you or trying to be pushy having a conniption or anything. I know you're blasted and that's fine... It's just my policy to check in for every inactive day just to peeps know I'm still watching and stuff is underway. Please don't take it to mean me tapping my fingers going "ZOMFGZ why hasn't you posted yets?!!??!!?!1" because it totally isn't. I am in fact profoundly grateful to both of you for taking the time do do this, ESPECIALLY in light of that you have so much else to deal with. I'm incredibly fortunate in that I spend a good portion of the day at work sitting on my ass, which is probably the only reason I have the time to develop this. Anyway.. It'll take as long as it needs to take and I'm fine with that. Do your thing when you have time, it's not worth stressing over. In the meantime you have my sympathies.. That's one hell of a thing you've got going right now. : / Hope it all works out satisfactorially.

Me too man me too take it as a testament to your game building skills that I'm still playing with all this going on. Cause it's all damn good fun. I'm not annoyed, just letting folks know I am alive and scheming. I do have a question however, would it be kosher to go ahead and make partial payment on the ship up from and avoid the loan fee on the initial payment? IE Kail decides to take out a loan on the Condor assault but goes ahead and puts down 54,000 right away then takes the 30% payment option.

Yep, perfectly fine to put money down with the initial payment, or at any point after that, really.
The loan fee doesn't kick in till after you complete a mission.. The lender automatically takes 30% of you mission profits which goes towards the payment, then zaps you for the fee (whatever it is, in this case $5k) as an added charge.(basically interest) So the fewer missions it takes you to pay off the ship, the less you wind up paying for it.
To actually answer your question though, it's pretty much impossible to avoid paying the per-mission loan fee unless you basically buy the thing in one fell swoop. But in this case it's just $5k, so it shouldn't be too bad a hit.
In the future I may tie the fee in with the % rate: As in a higher % translates to a lower fee, and vice versa.

Perhaps an hour later the caretaker of Cordry's hollow, one mister McGormley, makes his appearance. After a breef meeting, agreements are made regarding restocking and repairs, and the badgerlike McGormley sends off for the proper materiel to be brought to the site. Along the way, the subject of an additional ship and crew is brought up.
"Well..." McGormley runs a thumb over the thick stubble adorning his well-rounded face. "On what yer sayin, Oi might have a crew'n ship fer ye if'n ye can go 'bout footin th' bill.. Got me a 'ole den'a Cordie pluggers scuttin' bout better partsa last month'r so... Prollem is they've got more mouths'n they can feed 's et es. I own their ship 'n damn all else they got, all traded fer food'n parts 'n the like. Now I ain' a heartless man, but there's nothin' more they can give me'n there ain't a damn use I got fer 'em... I'd just let 'em go's a bad job but the woife, she'd gut'n'ang me fer lettin' em slip by without settlin' 'counts good, aye? ...So.. If ye'd wanna teke 'em off me ands Oi'd consider it a good kindness.. Pay their bill'n they're all yers, part'n'parcel. Cordies like doin' what theyr'e told so's long's 'ey know ye'r holdin' ther leash they'll cleave to ye good, aye."
West cocks an eyebrow. "Translation?"
Whitney clears his throat. "He's saying he has a ship and crew for us.. It appears a Concordian crew wound up on his doorstep without a penny to their name. They traded everything they had for parts and food, but even so they owed so much to McGormley he wound up with their ship as collateral. Problem being that McGormley doesn't have a use for them -or- their ship, so they've become a problem without a solution... Except I think the solution is about to become us. If we just cover what they owe to McGormley, they he'll give them to us."
"Give them." McCullough says, crossing his arms. "That simple, huh?"
"Well... In a way, it is." Whitney makes a face. "He's right.. Concordiats do like doing what they're told.. They believe in the law as an absolute, much more so than most other cultures. So if they're lawfully told to do something, or at least think they are, they're very likely to-"
Kail frowns. "That just doesn't sound right..."
West rolls his eyes. "Okay wow that's fascinating. How much are they?"
McGormley's face breaks into a wide grin." 'Bout hunnert eleven, by nearest count. 'n tell ye what. I'll throw in th' cost'a yer ammo 'n fuel fer free."
"Great. Call 'em up, have 'em truck over. You two, figure out how you want to pay." He waves a hand at the other two Captains. "I'm off for some beauty rest."

The day is well under way by the time the Condor arrives. It is a truly ancient craft, metal and wood discolored by time and long use, but surprisingly well cared for. The identifier CA-258 is stencilled in broad, bold letters on it's side. The ship hovers on thrumming engines at the edge of the field and then eases down gingerly in the small remaining strip of open space at the far end. A minute later the rotors have stopped turning and the rumble of the boiler has subsided. The forward hatch opens and a man steps out onto the field, barrel-thick and wearing a grey-blue Concordian flying suit. He spies McGormely and heads straight for him.
"We are here." He says brusquely, looking around the rest of the field only after his message is delivered.
"'ey there, Bosko." McGormley smiles up at the man towering over him, seeming genuinely pleased. "Whyincha get th' rest 'a yer folk affa th' ship? I got somethin 'fer 'em all ta 'ear."
Bosko blinks, mentally transcribing what was said, then turns and puts his hand to his mouth, producing a piercing whistle that carries the length of the field. One by one seven more crew, all identically dressed, file out of the Condor. They form up in a loose line behind Bosko.
"'Ey all." McGormley nods to the assembled crew. Most of the population of the field has gathered by this point, and the air is abuzz with soft murmurs of curiosity. "News fer ye! These kind folk've paid 'yer way. Yer ship belongs 'ta them'n yer ta travel wit' em 'n do 's they say."
McGormley extends a hand in a broad and symbolic gesture and latches onto the nearest Captain he can find, which happens to be McCollough. "Here!" He says loudly. "Tis done!"
There is a moment of surprised silence from half the field, with the exception of a soft snicker from Dallas West. Then Bosko steps forward, rendering a foreign salute to Iron Shrike's captain. After a moment he lowers his hand, looking down (he looks down on nearly everyone) quietly but expectantly.
"Uh." McCollough flounders a moment, but then his past comes back to him in a brief flash and his expression closes up.
"I'm Captain Kail McCullough. Introduce me to your crew, please."
Bosko nods, stepping back amongst the Condor's crew. He places a hand on his own chest, and then the shoulder of each crew as he names them in turn." "I am Bosko Pilot. This is Kazimir Lifter. This is Nicolai Lifter. This is Yaro Wrench. This is Pavel Wrench. This is Lidia Cannon. This is Alek Sword. This is Oleg Sword."
"No Captain amongst you?"
"No." Bosko's voice clippes the word a little tighter than usual.
McCullough's mouth turnes down a fraction of an inch as the shadow of a bad feeling passes through him.
"What happened to him?"
"He fell."
When Kail's silence lengthenes, Bosko elaborates. "Out the cattle door."
Whitney leans over and speaks close to McCollough's ear. "He means the lower hatches where the troops come out. That's their term for them... Pleasant country, isn't it?"
"Was he a good Captain?"
Bosko is silent for the span for five seconds.
"He got all our soldiers killed, except Alek and Oleg, who were injured and could not go. He would have gotten the rest of us killed too. Some day."
Kail nods and takes a full breath, now knowing all he needs to. He inclines his head towards the Condor.
"She's a good ship? With a good crew?"
Bosko's face breaks into a full-toothed smile. "She is two years older than my mother and in cold weather she groans like a mating cow. She has kissed the mud of battlefields in eleven countries, and the blood of a hundred men spots her bulkheads. She has flown in skies as with as many shells as drops in a rainstorm. She is the greatest ship in the air! And we... We do the best we can, for what we are." Bosko looks back at CA-258 and her crew and nods proudly.
"Well, that was unexpectedy poetic." Kail chuckles.
He finds Kieran and slaps him on the shoulder. "Well, they're all yours! ...Have fun."
