Produced by Caterina Shipyards, the Sylph is a light, nimble airship of considerable speed. Of primarily wooden construction it uses metal sparingly in areas subjected to the worst of aerobatic stress. The craft is outfitted with three mid-sized engines driving a total of five rotors, two in the fore and aft, and one situated in the belly of the craft, with the engine that powers it situated above.
The craft has an unusually large cargo capacity for a ship it's size, along with two cargo doors for quick loading or unloading, making it an excellent light cargo vessel.
The Sylph is lightly armed, with one small-bore turreted cannon with a rather limited ammunition capacity. While this lack of offensive capability is regarded by some as a major disadvantage, others argue that as its role is intended to be a scout and courier craft, the weapon's main purpose is as a simple deterrent, meant to prevent attackers from engaging the craft with impunity. The cannon is also suitable for performing quick attacks against ground emplacements or even other airships, when caught unawares.
In any case, The Sylph's main advantages lie in it's speed and mobility. While not well armored enough to last very long in face-to-face combat, uses can be found for it skirting the edge of the battle area, occasionally dashing in to exploit a momentary weakness or opportunity. It has been employed with some success recovering wounded soldiers from the battlefield, dropping off small, elite bands of soldiers, or similarly extracting them once their jobs have been completed.
A small but growing number of these ships have also been purchased and then converted into pleasure or racing craft, the design's high speed and maneuverability combined with relatively low cost making them an attractive option for wealthy adventure-seekers.
