The ships of the Mephisto class represent something of a global mystery. No manufacturer nor country of origin has ever been identified. The ships simply appeared, with the first sighting taking place around 1882. Dozens or rumors center around the origin of the ships and the reason for their construction, but what is knows is that a number of captains around the globe were given coordinates in secret on where to find one of the vessels. It's worth nothing that none of the captains in question had any sort of political or military affiliation, all were either pirates, brigands or freebooters by trade.
Considered almost supernaturally advanced at their time of release, by modern standards the ships are still thought of as sophisticated, powerful machines, though after thirty years they can no longer claim absolute superiority. Noteable is the high degree of mechanization and ingeniously designed devices that aid in the operation of the ship's systems. Much of this equipment is still only poorly understood.
Since then six ships of the type have been positively identified and registered, though it's is considered possible that more of the ships exist.
As this line of ships has no 'official' classification or manufacturer, it is known by the first ship of it's kind to be captured and examined, the Mephisto.
Apollyon: (Whereabouts unknown)
Baal: (Destroyed by Concodian Navy)
Hecate: (Whereabouts unknown)
Loki: (Reportedly destroyed, but it's supposed remains have never been located.)
Lucifer: (Whereabouts unknown)
Mephisto: (Captured by Victoriana, refurbished and re-comissioned as HMS Shadow.)
