This is just a little something to help me better understand the "Mood" of the Iron Shrike, small descriptions of the characters that flesh them out and get me in the setting of the game.
Kail McCullough- Once a captain in the many wars of the States, Kail was imprisoned in one of the many war camps there for treason of a most vicious nature ( if the rumors are correct, shooting his commanding officer in the back of the head). He staged a riot and escaped with the enigmatic prisoner #697432, commandeering the Iron Shrike in the process. He leads by example, never asking someone on his crew to do something he wouldn't do himself, and inspires fanatical loyalty despite his checkered past.
Six - Prisoner # 697432 sits with Kail as one of the oldest standing residents of the Shrike. A political prisoner of the States of indeterminable origin, she suffered numerous acts of torture and barbarism at their hands, the most grievous of which left her with one eye and no tongue. For the longest time she would only respond to her prisoner number, however Kail has managed to whittle it down to the succinct Six. She's an aggressive crack pilot, constantly pushing the ship to perform feats that others would hold their breath at. Unfortunately her treatment at the State prison camp makes her very hesitant to leave the Shrike.
Jim Reynolds - A veteran Victoriana sniper approaching his autumn years, Jim once made an attempt to hang up his gun and live the quiet life. A sky-ship battle over the fields of his farm however brought that to a crashing halt, leaving him widowed and with a daughter to raise. Despite the urgings of his neighbors Jim hit the road once again and took his daughter in tow, teaching her the only thing he knew how to do, kill folk. He has a level headed and calm approach to his job, doling out bullets with a chilling application of common sense.
Elizabeth "Lizard" Reynolds - the daughter of Jim, Elizabeth is just reaching womanhood and hitting her need for independence. Being raised on the road and airships alike, she's come to be quite the tomboy with a mouth that would make most sailors in her Majesty's Navy blush. She was dubbed Lizard by Bill (with whom she's developed a "Sister-brother" relationship) because of her habit of napping in the sun on deck. She's out to prove herself one of the best shots in the sky, and every inch her father's daughter. Because of this she's a bit rash in her decision making, and if no eye is kept upon her, she's bound to get into trouble.
Bill Addison - Bill is as many visitors aboard the Shrike like to say "Too damn polite to be from the States". He is however originally from the war torn area and has somehow through it all managed to come out polite, jovial, and familiar with over 500 ways of killing a man. He's got a history with the Captain, having once served in his unit, and the two play well off one another when the shit hits the fan. Despite this cohesion during battle, he and the Captain are at odds over the eventual fate of the States, himself being a patriot puts him in direct opposition with Kail, yet for some reason he stays on.
Stitch Finnigan- a crotchety old womanizing alcoholic with a gambling problem from Concordia, Stitch is on this "tub of shit-soaked bolts" as long as Kail can manage to keep his exorbitant bills paid. He's a competent medic with a nasty mean streak a mile wide, feeling cheated in life for having to travel with rabble like this, instead of having a proper tenure back in his home land. When in reality his decent on the ladder of society is mostly due to his own poor decisions and vices. Due to his swearing up and down that ships are no place for kids, he's made himself the target of much of the younger denizens aboard the Shrike. Lizard in particular is fond of initiating swearing matches with him that would curl the hairs on Satan's neck.
Shin and Sun Kizami - twin refugees from the Oriental isles, these two sons of Nippon were next in line of a long and distinguished family of alchemists. As a result of internal island politics however their family were all branded as thieves and left to rot out in the land of barbarians. They're well versed in the sciences of physics and trigonometry, however have something of a mischievous streak running through them. If Lizard ever has a plan hatching their usually right behind her, providing her with the know how on how to carry it out (whether this is because they think she'll actually succeed or because they just like seeing her get into more trouble is anyone's guess). What's more the shout-tubes of the ship are often ringing with their arguments in nipponese with one another on how to better do their jobs. The crew suspects if Kail didn't keep them on opposite sides of the ship, they'd never get anything done.
Griselda "Griz" von Sozer - Standing at just under 7 feet tall, Griselda is something of a gentle giant aboard the Shrike, often having to duck to get through the hatchways. You couldn't tell it by looking at her, but Griselda actually descends from nobility in Victoriana. The expectation to marry for family standing coupled with being ostracized for her size caused Griselda to run from that life and towards one that made much more sense, a life of steam and spinning gears. Despite leaving that life behind, Griselda still clings to it's sense of what is "proper" and often adopts a mothering attitude towards the crew when that line is crossed. This is reinforced whether she knows it or not, by the threat of what a big wrench-wielding girl like herself could do to a body. She shows the same sense of care for the Shrike, having shown to become emotionally distressed when it comes under harm. She's sensitive about her size, but bares her nickname "Grizzly" with good humor, seeing it as what it takes to be one of the crew.
Midge - a recently found stowaway in the Shrike's hold, the miniature Midge now earns her keep aboard the Shrike by doing the jobs that no-one else wants to. Having tasted life on the streets of Concordia, this arrangement suits her just fine, and most of the time she's all but invisible in the inner workings of the ship. While shy and introverted, she's in possession of overwhelming curiosity, and her previous life as a thief tends to lead her to dig in the possession's of others to satisfy that curiosity. Such expeditions often lead her to retreat for life from angry crewmen behind the hulking form of Griselda, with whom she's established a working bond with. Where Griselda's large frame can't reach, Midge's slight form can squeeze, and Kail suspects Midge has a working knowledge of every nook and cranny on the ship that rivals even his own.
