One of Union Heavy Steamworks' more recent designs, the Marauder is a tiny but fierce ship, purpose built as a scout/interceptor and light attack craft, though it also sees some employ as an armed courier. Boasting an impressive top speed as well as solid defensive armament, the Marauder also features a sophisticated cannon utilizing advanced optics, set in a forward turret with a wide field of fire. Two large engines provide ample speed despite it's heavily reinforced hull.
In order to maintain the craft's high power to weight ratio, a number of systems were stripped down to minimal levels, most notably the pressure tank, which is a tiny affair that has a capacity just large enough to hold enough pressure to run the ship. The bridge is also notably spartan (and often criticized by crew as being jagged, cold and uncomfortable) though it does have excellent visibility.
While the ship's outer hull is extremely well armored for a ship its' size, it's interior construction is light almost to the point of fragility. The design seems to place it's faith in the armor being able to stop any incoming attacks, and pays little mind to what would happen if a shot ever finds its way inside. The craft also has a reputation for being finicky and unreliable, perhaps because of it's light interior construction. But the crews that fly in the unique ship profess an unusual affection for the craft, usually believing its advantages outweigh its shortcomings.
Marauders are built to order, usually in small batches and for military clients generally in the States, though they do occasionally crop up elsewhere.
