Knights of the Sword can often be found ranging far from the Citadel.
The Order of the Shield is devoted to protecting the innocent and defending against the depredations of the wicked. While their tactics and indeed very name are predisposed to defense, they are no less capable in combat than any of their brothers. Knights of Shield are dispatched in times of need and trouble, usually in response to a petitioner to the Citadel or rumors of trouble.
The Order of Light emphaszes the tenets of healing and of inner faith, remaining stalwart and hopeful in times of darkness, and promotes the cause of charity when others are in need. Knights of the Light often accompany other knights in the field, or make long pilgrimages like Knights of the Sword. But instead of combatting evil, their primary objective is to spread enlightenment of spirit, often timey they will try to serve as mediators in a conflict. While they are the least warlike of all the orders and rely on combat as a last resort they are nonetheless very skilled in the arts of war.
THE CITADEL====================================================================================================

The Citadel is provisioned by the surrounding countries, but also from the donations of thankful towns, cities, and lands the Knights have done faithful service to. The Citadel sees a number of messengers and petitioners who arrive seeking the Knights's aid. If their need is sincere and their cause just the the knights will dispatch some of their own to aid in the cause. While they profess a desire to help anyone, in reality the number of peitions will often exceed the resources the Knights have available, so some petitions will go unanswered.

Knights are all seasoned warriors, and as such the stats of a starting character is more on par with a Squire rather than a full knight. For character purposes there are reasons why a Square might be unaccompanied in the field.. Most often it may be some task associated with their Trial to become a full Knight.
