AREAS OF NOTE:
SPRINGPORT
Springport is a bustling port city in Ildemar, founded several years ago. It's outstanding feature is the many streams of fresh water that pour from the side of a seaside mountain. These springs are what give Springport it's (considerably literal) name. The Port was founded due to the abundance and easy access to the fresh water, and it is a popular spot for ships to re-provision.
The source of these waters was discovered to be a series of caverns inside the mountain, at the heart of which was found to be a large elemental stone from which the spring waters flowed. This artifact was named the Fathom Stone, and is tended by a small cadre of Mistwalkers.
::::::::POINTS OF INTEREST::::::::
+Shipwreck Rock
Located some distance away from the town, Shipwreck rock is, as it's name suggests, the cause of many maritime accidents in fog or stormy weather.
+The Breakwater
Part of a peninsula that originally formed a bay, the Breakwater was build up into a massive seawall that protects the port in harsh weather. Almost a mile long, it is also the headquarters of the Port Guard, and houses their barracks, docks, a small prison, and an impressive array of cannons.
+The Water Caverns
The hollowed out caverns where the Fathom Stone resides. This area is enshrined by the Mistwalkers, and is restricted from public access. The caverns are extensive and filled with streams and waterfalls that cut through the rock.
+Docks
Springport's docks are extensive, covering the entirety of the waterfront with dozens of wooden piers. A number of warehouses are also clustered near the water.
+Mine
Much of Springport's construction is of stone, and most of this was quarried from a mine that extends down low the city. The mine was constructed with care to avoid accidentally running into part f the Water Caverns. Though contraction of the city has largely come to a halt, the mine remains in operation and is a fair amount of stone is brought up daily for export.
+The Lighthouse
Located at one end of the Breakwater and maintained by the Port Guard, the Lighthouse towers high above the ocean and marks the entrance to the harbor. It also forms one half of the Harbor Bridge.
+Harbor Bridge
Considered a minor marvel of engineering, the Harbor Bridge connects the Breakwater to the Mainland via a high and sturdy stone walkway, tall enough for ships to sail under it. The Harbor Bridge allows foot travel beaten the mainland and Breakwater, where previously ferries were required
+The Old Lighthouse
Placed on a high hill inland, the Old Lighthouse has been replaced by the newer one, and is now used primarily for storage.
+Market District
Springport features a well developed market economy and Market Street in particular has a number of stores and trading outlets.
+Springport Arms Inn
Springport's largest and most famous public tavern, the Arms is a well-kept building of two stories that enjoys a lively clientele, and frequent performances.
+The Bulwark
The Bulwark is a large wall that surrounds the city, constructed after a long string of monster attacks when the city was in it's infancy. Built into one of the corners of the Bulwark is the Militia headquarters and barracks.
+The Manor
The residence of the Mayor. A large stone building built atop one of the larger hills in town, with it's sides being nearly vertical. affords a good view of the town and also doubles as a defensive position in tomes of danger.
::::FACTIONS:::
The Port Guard:
The Port Guard is tasked with protecting the harbor, docks and the ships therein, as well as defending the city itself from attack by sea. It is largely a volunteer organization with only a few permanent members. The Port Guard has a few small fighting ships to it's name, but primarily relies upon the canons upon the Breakwater to repel any threats. as such, much of the Port Guard's training regimen revolves around practicing with these large weapons.
The Springport Militia:
As with the Port Guard, the Militia has one a few permanent soldiers, with the rest of the force being made up of volunteers. The Militia is takes with protecting 'everything that isn't by the water' and they largely concentrate on maintaining the Bulwark, though they also serve as a de-facto police force as well.
Mistwalker Cadre
Due to it's very nature the Fathom Stone tents to attract Mistwalkers, and those that find themselves drawn here occasionally become part of the Cadre, which is devoted to maintaining the Stone and the caverns it inhabits.
