Well, if you're reading this, hopefully you're interested in trying out the game. Obviously it's a work in progress, more of an alpha than anything.. The framework is there, but much remains to be added, and much will probably change before the end. But first of all, thanks for taking an interest and helping out! Hopefully the experience will be a fun one, I'll be doing about everything I can to make it so.
As for what the game is actually about, well it's a bit of a few things... It's a roleplaying game (in the actual sense) and a co-operative strategy game. It's played over a forum at the moment but I'm developing it so it could be played as a tabletop game as well.
What's expected of you as a tester
You will need to be active
I would like at least one post a day on weekdays. Weekends I let everyone off the hook. Posting should not take a lot of time, (Perhaps 10-15 mins to read what's gone before and write your move for the day) though the more effort you out into your posting the more fun the game will be and the more you will be rewarded.
You must be tolerant of changes
As I said, this is an Alpha, so I may be changing things while a game is in motion, be it rules or items, equipment, even skills or the setting of the whole world. Please just roll with it.
Feel free to make suggestions! ...But don't get mad if they aren't used.
I'm very happy to consider your ideas. And I WILL consider every suggestion made very carefully, however if I decide it won't work for the game, please don't take it personally, and please don't argue with my decision. If you do want to make a suggestion, please make sure you can clearly explain it and how it would fit into the game. Having already done some testing inside the rules to see how it works would be extremely useful as well.
Game Complexity
Despite my best intentions, the game has a lot of rules. Fortunately as a player you aren't required to understand all of them, so long as you pay attention to the basics you should be able to participate. Feel free to ask for help if you don't understand how something works. I'm happy to assist you, and knowing what people are confused about will help me write things more clearly in the future, or simplify aspects that are just difficult or unnecessary in general.
For those of you who are interested in exactly how the game works, you can look at a section called STATWORKS that will usually be at the bottom of the relevant pages in the guide. This explains exactly how rolls are made, encounters generated, etcetera. Even the formulas that determine rarity and cost of items in some cases.
Help Wanted
I have most of the basic bases covered, but I need to create large numbers of items, cargos, compartments, NPC's etc in order to fully 'populate' the world. I can do this myself, but I've also written guidelines that allow people to create them on their own. If you are interested in helping, here are the main sections I could use some assistance with:
• AIRSHIPS<- High priority
(Will need MANY. The building process is complex, but sort of fun if you have the mindset. Be prepared to combat-test your ship against others.)
• Compartment templates
(For use in airships)
• Gear
(Need lots more of everything)
• Weapons
(Mostly guns)
• NPCs
(Class templates and individual characters. Writing skill is required.)
• Art
(If you have anything that's remotely thematically related, I'd be happy to showcase it. )
• Compartment Art
(2D art for airship interiors)
If you're interested in helping, please let me know and I'll pass out the design formulas. I'll make sure you get some sort of credit for the items you design (If they're submitted correctly, I'll still have to check everything) and probably some bonus CP for helping out.
Okay! When you're ready you can start by learning how to make a character.
