Claire Trammell
treasure tracker & sometime short-con grifter
Appearance
Claire is a chameleon; her outward appearance changes depending on who she's meeting with and what the situation dictates. One day she might be a femme fatale, the next a stuffy and awkward librarian. To friends and family -- typically people she doesn't put on extra appearances for -- she's fairly average. Wears clothing that is most comfortable and convenient, but almost always has concealed weapons on her person. Average height, medium brown hair, unremarkable looks, average build. The only thing notable about her is that she typically isn't seen without a pair of glasses (unless she's grifting).
Demeanor
Like her appearance, Claire's interactions and behavior change depending on the job at hand. Underneath the con, her quick thinking and uncanny ability to read people and situations give her an edge in staying one step ahead of her mark. She uses these same cognitive skills and leaps of intuition to divine the location of lost treasure (though you'd never know by her track record; she doesn't always sell accurate information). She doesn't keep written records of her quests, choosing to keep hard-
won tips and information safe in her own memories. She's highly intelligent and often makes the people around her feel like they are the butt of some unspoken inside joke by her bemused grin and sharp eyes.
History
After a childhood of privileged upbringing that ended in family tragedy and feuding amongst siblings, Claire separated herself from her previous life in most ways, setting off on her own to travel the world. To most accounts, she left behind her surname and is known only as Claire. Using the sizable inheritance from her wealthy parents as funding, Claire made it her goal to go everywhere and see everything. Her interest in history, archaeology, and old maps led her to treasure hunting -- specifically, locating the precise location of lost treasure based on historical records, ghost stories, myths, legends, and a fair amount of intuition. When she's able, she retrieves the lost treasure with the help of mechanical devices her brother, Scooter, fabricates out of scrap metal, cogs and gears, and refuse. Most of the time, however, she lacks the resources to conduct the recovery herself, and instead sells information to other would-be treasure seekers.
