You think you can handle that Scarab by yourself? I'd like to move my Response Team over to Viking Helmet's side. You might want someone with a medkit around just in case, though.
A, hop aboard SA. SA, turn east onto Hal Muller Ave.
D, run over to the bridge, if you can disembark and run on the same turn. Otherwise just keep driving over there.

Hopefully I can point blank it, yeah.
L,H, move closer to the scarab by moving left. Everyone on foot, shoot the scarab.
J,G, reload.
VC - stay there.
Someone, scream at that car to drive north while they still can. (I think there's room just at VC's tail and is possible to reach without running anyone down)

O reload. N and P unload/move into the square west of QMOR, E switch into VA turret. Q put one of his ARC ammo into VA. Everyone else hang out
Those mongrels need will be 1 short of melee range after 3 rounds, which is about perfect for efficient shooting. I'm going to form up a temporary line here and try to pick off the geist as they work their way north - the mobbers are going to trickle around that corner since they're so slow, which should make it easy to deal with them and waves of whatever else comes. Q is grabbing a grenade in case an opportunity presents itself.

I hope that car wasn't just one-shot by a diagonal slowpoke. OK, time to retreat. I,H, shoot the nearest geist you see and run north. L, area fire the blob to the east of the car (the area fire circle doesn't touch the car) and run north, too. VC, drive 3 tiles north and unload Clint and Marina on the east side of the vehicle, close to the northern edge. To civilians: MOVE MOVE MOVE MOVE! EVERYONE, KEEP MOVING! IT'S NOW OR NEVER, PEOPLE! Damn, I feel so bad for the poor bastards trapped east.

Okay things are heating up. Good time to be bringing indirect fire over this way!
B, keep heading east, park just to the north of the wall. A, reload.
D, plant that demo charge! Give it two turns.
C and F, start heading southeast. mydad, I'd appreciate you giving them a lift if you could, but I can see you have higher priorities for VC this minute.

Yeah, I was thinking about maybe doing that, but I'm too close to that spawning zone. For all I know, I may have to leg it before a swarm of scarabs.
East is looking scary, yikes.

I wonder what the mongrel moving up by the stash is doing...
PONM shoot at the 4 leading mobbers. Q grab a frag grenade out of VB. Everyone else sit tight.

I REALLY hope that big blip isn't something armored, because our RPG and Battle Rifle troopers are preoccupied on the other side of the map. We're not completely helpless, MMGs have a lot of armor-depleting capacity if focus-fired rather than area-fired, and grenades have a bit too, but our main armor-damaging weapons aren't on hand here.

(Aw frig I meant to tell C and F to go west but I got my directions messed up and never noticed. -_- )
Anyway, orders.
A, hop out of the ATV and head south along the wall.
D, hop into your ATV and head west.
Doesn't look like any of those blips are Scarabs, so VC should be able to pick up C and F in three turns. I'll give them orders when I see what everyone else is up to.

(Aw frig I meant to tell C and F to go west but I got my directions messed up and never noticed. -_- ) I imagine this is something Gravedust is willing to retroactively fix since it's not influencing combat directly. In which case, it'll probably be faster for your guys to make it on foot. I wonder what that blue SA marker in the field is. I,H,G, shoot and run north. L, reload and run north. J, don't shoot and keep up the pace with G. VC, move 3 tiles north. If Squid's guys can't be moved west retroactively, then hit the gas and go pick them up as fast as possible.

I wonder what that blue SA marker in the field is. SA has queued movement that ends there, vehicles get a little marker at their destination when given orders to move for more than a single turn.

Can I give conditional fire orders? Say, have the transport area fire at a group and then have the troops target anything that didn't die?

Can I give conditional fire orders? Say, have the transport area fire at a group and then have the troops target anything that didn't die? Yep, that is sort of how it works already, if one unit drops a target the next one will fire at the next-best one. (You can also specify for units to only make shots below a certain Difficulty) I tend to have units attack in the order that they're mentioned, though, so just make sure you have the MG firing first in your orders.

Cool, in that case
VA area fire on the central mongrel. All other dismounts, fire at the nearest geist, prioritizing mongrels over mobbers if they're equally close.
Also that mongrel did go into the warehouse... wonder why

FOX ----------------------------------------------------------- 'Sure you're okay?' Darnell has to read Leola's lips to see what she's saying, the ringing in his ears is too loud and the radios belt out mostly static. Darnell nods back, looking away from his rifle's sights of long enough to raise one hand in a thumbs up. Crumbs of tempered glass from the metro's shattered sliding doors fall out of his rolled sleeve. In truth he can barely recall what happened. He remembers cupping his hands against the tinted glass to see inside, catching a glimpse of figures huddled against the far wall. And then the glass exploded and the city turned upside down as the wind was knocked out of him by the Scarab. He remembers the crunch of the glass and the stinging cuts across his face, the sound of his weapon clattering against the concrete floor, and, most of all, the smell. The Geist never made any sound, but it had a smell. An abhorrent smell, like a corpse filled with some awful chemical, the kind meant to kill small things. But he was alive. He didn't remember what came after that, but he was still alive. Leola's gun speaks off to his left, and he tracks her target and fires. Dark cyan blotches bloom across the front of the nearest Mobber and it falls, but crawls another dozen feet before it finally lies still. There are more behind it. "Back it up, back it up, shoot and scoot," someone's distorted voice is saying over the radio, and together he and Leola move back. He fires the last of his rounds and as the magazine clatters to the pavement something passes near his head. It is felt more than seen or heard, a brief pressure in the air. Some distance being him, it strikes the ground with a loud clack. "Shit! Get down!" He shouts, and a meter-long spike of bone drives itself halfway into the asphalt four feet from Leola. The back half snaps off and cartwheels down the avenue, sliding between the wheels of the Buffalo. Leola immediately drops to a deep crouch as another spear whips by. Darnell flattens himself against the building to his right and sees where the fire is coming from. Gaunt figures move amongst the drifts of shattered glass by the metro entrance. Their limbs seem wrongly jointed and overlong, spindly except for one arm which is easily twice the size of the other. Darnell reaches up and keys his mic, hoping the radio will work well enough for the others to understand him. "Heads up," he says. "We got Slingers." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SHOOTING RESULTS: ---------------- (I) Hit, Kill (H) Miss (G) Hit, Kill ----------------- VA (area fire 8+4+2 { MR1 Hit, Kill ML1 Hit, Kill ML2 Miss ML3 Hit, Kill ML4 Miss ML5 Hit, Kill ML6 Hit, Kill ML7 Hit, Kill } (N) Miss (M) Miss (R) Miss (Q) Hit, Kill (P) Hit, Kill (O) Hit, Kill ================================================== ((Demo Charges can be planted on any brown part of the bridge.)) Viking Helmet, you wanna advance up a little bit? The Mobbers are down to just a trickle on this side. Might want to get someone to watch over that alley, too. I'm sending B but she's not equipped to hold a line herself.
A, follow Team Bravo and stay behind them. B, get out and head to the lawn of the Civil Protection Authority offices (keeping a gun pointed down that alley, while keeping LoS down the main street for rangefinding).
C & F, keep heading toward the Slingers.
D, turn around and head for the central pedestrian bridge.

I'm a little nervous about the big blob to the east and whatever's coming up from the south. There's also the issue that the mobbers can access the interior of the civil protection offices through the alley and come out behind me if I push forward. For now, I'm going to stay put and hope to get eyes on the new mobs next turn. I will get drivers in place though, ready to move next turn.
M get in the driver's seat of VB, N get in the driver's seat of VA. E hang out for a turn. Everyone else shoot at the nearest geist.
Also I'm travelling for the holidays Friday-Monday and won't have much time to update, so my next turn will probably be on Tuesday.

Hm... This is gonna be a fun couple of turns if I want to save those 4 people.
First of all, VC, move 3 tiles north. L,J, area fire the Slingers. (If there's only one left after L shoots it, J can do a regular shot at it) I, H, run north and reload. G, shoot surviving Slingers if there are any left. If there aren't, shoot the nearest MR.
Shout at civilians "Run north and over the bridges! Go! Go! Go! Do not stop!"
e: That big thing is probably our time limit for blowing up the vehicle bridge.

CORINA KIRK ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The detonation punishes her ears and thumps deep on her lungs and she looks over her shoulder in time to see a shiver travel along the pedestrian bride's slender spine. Metal screeches in the echo of the detonation as the bride twists, turning sideways from head to tail like a tired horse laying itself down. Spray explodes skyward as the severed neck crashes into the water, and the twisted mass quickly settles as a tangled strand of piping and cables, groaning as it is caught and bent further by the current. "East bridge is down," she says into her mic. Using Area Fire actually adds a further penalty. (+2 and +4 to difficulty, respectively) which made these shots actually reach the threshold where the only way to hit was to score a 'lucky' shot, by rolling a natural 20.)) ================================================== ((Demo Charges can be planted on any brown part of the bridge.)) Man, I'm full of regrets about vehicle placement right now. I'm not asking for take-backsies or anything, but I'm noticing that I had B drive across the street and then sprint back across it again (which is where she ought to be, at least). And I should have D approach these two bridges from the south, preferably with another soldier on hand to redirect traffic. If anyone thinks I'm doing something that doesn't make sense, speak up, because I have a tendency to miss things.
I don't suppose ATVs can go down one of the pedestrian bridges without needing a piloting roll?
A, keep in position behind Bravo. B, head toward the doors of the CPA building, ask civilians "Have you seen geist in there?" (No clue what the internal layout is like, if any mobbers entered they might be slowed down, or they might have a straight path out. This at least is a simple and straightforward way of finding out.)
C and F, keep heading toward the firefight with the slingers. You've already been reassigned from watching the bridges, no point in waffling right now.
A couple other things. One, Vikinghelmet's got all his people back together and in any case has a different driver for VA, so I'd like control of E back, please and thank you. No immediate plans for him, though.
Two, mydad you might want to have people hide around corners to ambush slingers instead of just trading fire in the open. Possibly throw down a smoke screen to cover your retreat, too.
Three, Gravedust not only is area fire bad for accuracy, but shouldn't firing an infantry MMG be impossible while moving? >:{} (thus saving three rounds of MMG ammo that didn't even hit)
e: D, pull up to (not past) the next bridge and rig it to blow. (If VH returns him to me) E, get out of VA, into SA, and drive to the north face of the CPA offices.
