((Damage control only works when a Malfunction occurs in a compartment the character is in, it doesn't have an effect on a Malfunction that's already happened. Soooo for instance if the compartment takes a hit and makes a Malf roll, the result of that roll is reduced by an amount. Basically it's the port of a SP! special skill (that I'll proabaly be removing, now that I think about it.) Buuut now that you mention it, that kind of sucks for purposes of this game, so I can retcon the ability if you want. We can have it just passively reduce a Malfunction's Severity by 10 per round. It the case of multiple malfunctions it would split itself between them evenly. 5/5 for 2, 3/3/3 for 3, etc. (the remainder disappears) This wouldn't cost an action, just standing in the compartment would do the trick. The ability would proc in the compartment the character is in at the END of their turn. Sound good? Also fires aren't technically malfunctions, even though they are listed there. >.> so it won't work on that. But anyway, Griz's adjusted Elite skill would take care of the Pressure Leak in the compartment she's in, though. so she could use 2 actions on FF. (It should be noted for purposes of me being nice I automatically arrange firefighting rolls to be done in order of highest skill to lowest, since lower skills can be 'wasted' trying to fight a high-intensity fire. They have a better chance of having an effect if the fire's severity is lower. The roll is basically: [D100]+[Firefighting] - [Fire severity] = Amount Fire Severity is reduced by. So you want your big rolls up front and the little ones later, since (hopefully) they'd be dealing with a lower severity) Anyway, I've been doing this automatically, so yay me. Also remember the fire gets bigger at the beginning of each round, so the 88 became a 96 (which you didn't see, but it's in the log) and then got knocked down to a 68) *deep breath* Anyway. You're doing pretty well considering you're dealing with literally the worst fire possible under the rules. >.>

Also, there are a few other changes I've been working on. This is going in my blog post for today also...
(SA/SP!) - Shipbuilding Alterations (V1.3) Well, I've done it again, I'm altering the pricing structure of the ships, so some of them (well, all of them, probably) will be getting a little more expensive once the changes go through. I'm thinking I may also alter some weights, but I'm trying to avoid that. Changing price is simple, weight means I have to recalc most of the ships again. If I do change the weights it means ships will get slightly slower/heavier. The problem being that some compartments (Cargo/bunks especially) were simply too light and cheap. The weight and cost of some compartment accessories (Cargo hatches, emergency hatches, etc.) May also be increased slightly.
(SA) - Ground Combat Revisions I'm thinking of altering the way ground combat works a little. Right now I'm vacillating somewhat on what exactly needs to be done, but once I get a clearer idea I'll explain what I intend and maybe ask for some input. Or maybe I won't do anything, I'll probably need a few more rounds of combat to decide.
(SA/SP!) - Ground Bombardment On the positive side, I think I'm going to revise the rules for airships firing on ground positions.
Hovering directly over the ground square you intend to shoot at allows you to place cannonshots as called shots. (this is basically how it is now) This neutralizes your ship's evasive modifier, since it requires you to remain steady over the target.
You can also fire on a ground square from any height and distance you like, however if you do so the shots will hit randomly (Each ground square has 100 compartments total, so I'll just roll a D100 and -bloop- that's where the shot lands So you can bombard ground squares from a distance if you want to, but there's no telling what you'll hit, basically. Also your shot power will be degraded by range as normal.
The timing of the bombardment is determined during the ground phase, using the SHIP'S Air Tac score interposed into the ground phase's Com Tac Chain.
I.e Ground Combat Chain: Guy 1: Com Tac = 90 Guy 2: Com Tac = 80 Ship: Air Tac = 75 <---Bombardment happens Guy 3: Com Tac = 50 Guy 4: Com Tac = 40 Etc. Etc.
Meaning there is a chance you can move your characters out of the line of fire, if their Com Tac is high enough and you expect a square to be blasted from the air. The Ammo and steam cost of the bombardment shots is deducted when the ship does the firing, the effects just aren't calculated till later.
Later on I may add actual bomb bays for ships which will allow for called-shot-like attacks to be made against a ground square without the ship having to halt and lose it's evasion modifier. The attacking ship just needs to cross over the target ground square at any height. Dropping bombs will not cost steam, and bombs do not suffer from range-based damage reduction.
(SA) - Jetpacks Expanded! Jetpacks can now be used on the ground. They do not work indoors (for hopefully obvious reasons) But outside they can be used once per round to travel double the normal distance covered by walking and can bypass squares blocked by enemy characters.
There will be an Agility roll (Diff 30, I think) which if not passed, basically your character lands on hir face, takes 2 damage and gets posted to Failblog).
In light of this new functionality I may also be assigning Jetpack charges. (20/20?) 1 Charge per use on a ground map, and 5 charges to cross a square at Airship scale. (Ship-to-ship jump) Meaning that you can now actually make a jump to a ship up to 4 squares away.. though you're not getting back. >.< Difficulty for a ship-to-ship jump is an Agility roll. (Base difficulty of 20, increased by 10 per every square travelled before landing.) Failing this roll means you miss your target and take the express route to terra firma. You can save yourself with parachute. Otherwise, ~le squish~
Unlike grenades or other equipment though, Jetpack Charges will be replenished fully between missions. I may also be increasing their price. <-==-(I've ninja'd this in already))

Basically it takes me a full day to do a round now, depending on how much work I have to do at work.
The Ground phase goes pretty quickly, but the Air phase in some cases can take a lot of time, especially when dealing with a lot of shooting and damage and other fun stuff. it still gets faster by a little bit every time I do it, I'm learning some shortcuts and not being as detailed with the Log. But the amount of time it takes is such that I can't just do the writeup the same day as the round expires. I'd be posting at 2 or 3 in the morning. : /
So, unless something massive happens in terms of simplification (super unlikely) when dealing with complicated battles you can probabaly expect so see the round go up the evening AFTER the round finishes. I.E. if you get your turns out this evening you can expect to see them Friday night.
So in order to get 2 rounds a week in we may need to adjust when the rounds close. So far I'm looking at:
Monday: Round (From previous Friday) Closes Tuesday: I do stuff, post update in the evening. Wednesday: Y'all look at things, think about things. Thurs: Round Closes Friday: I do stuff, post update in the evening. (or maybe sat, depending -_-)
So yeah the new round end days would be Monday and Thursday. ..Actually basically how it is now, huh?

The shot shoulders it's way through the ship's rear armor, tearing open it's boiler in a flash of red before continuing on to explode in the bridge, bursting the entire compartment outward in a shower of wood and metal and sparks.Coyote dips into the trees, their heavy trunks battering the nose and pulling it down until the craft flips end over end, cartwheeling through the forest before the hull cracks open and disintegrates into a blaze of fire. Torn free from the ship the pressure tank hurtles away like a rocket, before crumpling against a granite outcropping and exploding volently into a massive steamcloud, expanding with enough force to bowl over a dozen nearby trees.*Captain Fain<Radio>: Heh. A thick white jet of steam marks it's point of departure.*..And things are starting to come apart down here! Listen! I'm going to bypass the tank safeties and vent the compressor! I need you to open the utility hatch so the pressure has somewhere to go! With luck it'll be enough of a shock to basically just blow the fire out! Midge: Will that work!? Griz: Probably! I don't know! Either it will and we'll be fine, or we'll both explode or burn to death. But we haven't got a whole lot of choice here! Are you ready? Midge: ...As I'll ever be! Griz: Good then three, two ONE! GO! *A geyser of smoke and compressed air is suddenly forced out of the Shrike via a hatch in her side normally used for loading in fuel and water for the boiler. The craft shudders and loses a little altitude with the sudden pressure drop. After a second however, the flow of air is choked off.*Midge: Oh.. My.. It worked! Ha! It worked! Griz: Whew.. That it did! Good job! *A few moments later Shrike's cannons rumble as it settles into a hover next to Cordelia. The cannonshells further decimate the rear yard, throwing up clouds of dirt and debris, and again putting the faces of the Oakes security forces downin the dirt. One shot veers from it's intended point and crashes through the roof of the manor, exploding in the kitchen amidst a horrible din. The kitchen door is stripped off it's hinges and propelled halfway down the hall, as the wall it had been formerly attached to collapses into ruin.*Bill Addison: Well that was a shade close... What happened to the.. Oh, they moved into the larder.. lucky for them... Kail we're left with three that I can set eyes on. Swords all. Captain McCullough: Alright, we'll find a way to deal with them if we have to.. Everyone else, we need to search this house! I don't want to be here when they scrape up more reinforcements! Find our medical parts! -Storytime-To the south side of the building, Beth Knox pushes through a door into a large and opulent bedroom, expensively furnished. Two men occupy the far side, the first wears the brown uniform of an Oakes employee. The other is a handsome man whose slicked black hair stands in sharp contrast to his pale skin and brilliantly white suit. He looks down his nose at Beth as she enters "Vell. Zis is to be my rescue? ..Disappointing, after such a fuss." He sniffs. "I told you, Doctor Mengler. You aren't going anywhere." The Oakes man draws his sword in a businesslike fashion, his stance casual though at the same time it looks like he might spring into action at any instant. "Who said anything 'bout a rescue?" Beth cautiously edges further inside, scanning the tables and desks for anything resembling what she was told to look for. Nothing. "But of course zees eez a rescue." Mengler scowls, gesturing impatiently. "Vhy else vould you be heer? If you vanted to keel me, you could have done so from ze air. So ze only reason for you to land es iv you vanted me, personally. No doubt some old aristokrat vants me to save heem from father time." The Doctor grinned. "It's touching he vould go to so much trouble." "We ain't here for anybody. Shut up." Keeping an eye on the men she crouches to check under a table. Still nothing. This was too fancy to be any sort of lab anyway.. There wasn't enough storage or workspace. Still... "Take one more step closer to Doctor Mengler and you'll die." The Oakes man took a step forward, his sword held out. His name-plate said Cobane. "Leave now. This is the one and only warning you'll get." "Hey, take it easy there, ripper." She backed up a step nonetheless. Something in the way Cobane moved made her think there was a good chance he could make good on his threat. "We ain't here for him. We just want his medical gizmos. You stay out of our way and there's no call for more blood." Cobane's stance didn't change in the slightest, but Mengler's brows furrowed. "My eqvipment... Fools! zhey are useless vizout me! Unless.. von of my pupils.. Perhaps.." His eyes flashed and he turned his gaze back to Beth. "Listen! Take me vis you! I still have hidden accounts and I vill pay dearly for my freedom! I'm pretty sure it's caffiene withdrawal. I think I had a Rockstar every day last week... Last night I slept for 12 hours and today I have a nasty headache and just generally feel like total crap. : /
If it's not that then it's either a pressure related headache or I'm getting sick again. Or both maybe. : /
I don't do very well at writing or other creative anything when my brain hurts, but I'll squeak through it if I can. ;D

Jack Cobane: Shut up, doc. =============================================== ::NOTES::Well the situation with CA is pretty much as follows: It can hover and fly (very slowly) but it hasn't got enough juice to ascend. So like Kieran said, if you land it it won't be able to take off again. The rudder is jammed, which means (in this case) it'll do a 135 turn to the left at the beginning of every round. (actually a 45 degree turn since it doesn't have enough power left to do a full 135 or even a 90 >.< ) and won't have really enough power left over to do anything else so you're effectively rooted in place till you can get it fixed. Kieran gets 2 turns like everyone else. Captaining takes 1 turn and Piloting takes another. So you can have him stop one to try and make a Repair. Replacing his Captaining action will just remove his Air Tac bonus from the ship. (Like Shrike is now. Actually I've been counting Six as captain but since she doesn't have any Air Tac the effect is the same..)) If you choose to land the ship and evacuate the crew you will lose the ship and (in this case) there is a 75% chance per crewmember that they will manage to make it back later and rejoin you. If you manage to get the ship off the map then you get to keep the ship and crew and all else. ..I can tell you now that CA's forward speed will be ~1 square per round, though... After paying flight cost it's left with 740 power. ((Hurgh.. I'm very sorry but I'm not feeling so hot, so I'm just gonna do the cliffs' Notes version: -Ariel gets a shot off that hits Grunwald in it's lowest deck, causing an impressive amount of damage, but unfortunately there's nothing vital down there. -Charger semi-narrowly avoided getting her bridge shot out then chased after Grun. Grun's aft armor was relatively undamaged so nothing made it through despite Charger's persistent and spirited donkey-punching. -Shrike manages to get the fire taken care of, (finally)- -CA hangs in there (by a thread) however Lidia was unable to get the fire out and a malfunction caused by fire damage has put the cannon out of commission permanently. Kieran would like to take this opportunity to fervently pray that the next fire spread roll result isn't 26-50, because if it is they're pretty borked. =============================================== ::NOTES::Whew. This was a wierd round.. A lot of really lucky rolls and a lot of really unlucky rolls. : / But Shrike finally stopped being on fire! Well just to cover a couple of things: Sapper bombs don't injure characters in SA, they just blow through walls. Also you can huck grenades thru doors just fine. ^^ Sorry if either of these points weren't clarified. And while it may look like Grunwald is trying to flee the map, it isn't. Also: IMPORTANTI'm adding the ability to indicate a Max Range for cannons using Targeted fire. If the target is outside the max range given, the gunners won't bother to fire. (Because wasting ammo and steam on long shots that won't do much damage even if they do hit kind of sucks.) You can set a Max Range like so: Targeted Fire on Dummyship, RoE 5, Max 10 I think that might help the shooting be a little more flexible, especially when dealing with fast ships. ALSO IMPORTANT:Since ground combat is horribly broken I'm implementing the following changes. I was going to wait till the end of the mission, but Ehh. - Musketeer Ranged Damage is reduced to 6 (because right now they are too awesome. This may go back up depending on how the other changes effect things.) (there is still a 'soft critical' increased damage effect for rolling 100+ on a ranged attack) -Non-musketeer ranged damage is 4.- The way Melee attacks are made has been modified (because right now they suck) The new formula is: D100[+Attacker's Swashbuckling] - [Defender's Swashbuckling] Basically I'm removing the D100 component from the Defender's roll, so it's the attacker's roll vs. a static number. Meaning that melee attacks will do a lot more damage a lot more consistently. Especially if we have a Melee guy hitting a non-melee guy. -Melee fighters will now make Attacks of Opportunity-Basically if they have a spare action and an enemy is within range they can make an attack. This applies to circumstances where their target retreats to a different compartment, putting them out of range. If there is an available target the Swashbuckler will hit that instead. Attack of Opportunity targets will be chosen at random. -L33t Captain combat stats are being nerfed: (Because they are FUCKING RIDICULOUS ) -Musketeering is now 80 -Swashbuckling is now 80 -Air Tac is now 80 -THERE IS NO MORE COMPARTMENT BLOCKING-I.e. Anyone can move anywhere regardless of whoever else in occupying the compartment. Also note that MELEE ATTACKERS MUST NOW BE IN THE SAME COMPARTMENT AS THEIR TARGET.I will be changing the Infiltrator Elite skill to something else to compensate. I'm thinking this: Elite Skill: (Stealth) There is a 40% chance that a musketeering or swashbuckling attack made against this character will automatically fail due to their elusive nature. Sooo.. *Charger narrowly wriggles it's way around Grunwald's canon arcs, putting a shot into it's bow before screaming off to the east.* -Charger-Captain Fain<Radio>: Bah! Dammit dammit dammit. I was tryinna pick out his rear engine. Guess not this time. -Cordelia-Captain Whitney<Intercom>: Ahead full, gents. Gunners prepare to engage. Elias Graves: Ariel's up ahead. Captain Whitney: Not to worry. He'll alter course. -Ariel-Captain West<Intercom>: All right.. Let's close in and choke this guy off. We've got a bird hurt and I think I'm tired of playing games for today. Eli Marsh: Cordelia's closing from our starboard flank. Captain West. Eh, he'll alter course. *Cordelia's forward guns rumble, followed in short order by Ariel's. Most of the shots strike home, rattling the Grunwald and savaging it's rear armor as it begins to come about. The aft turret compartment is blown partway open and collapses in on itself, clearly out of commission. Meanwhile the two black ships have flown dangerously close to one another.* -Ariel-Eli Marsh: Holy hell they're almost on us! -Cordelia-Elias Graves: Ah! Dammit! *Both ships take evasive action, bringing themselves up short and hanging awkwardly in midair.* -Ariel-Captain West<Radio>: Come on, man! I've just never lost anyone before. -On the ground-*Two fierce fights break out at opposite ends of the compound. In the West, Thad Gillian and Eugene Wells open fire on the two swordsmen guarding the study. One goes down under the hail of bullets, but the other charged through the fusillade ina n unexpected direction; into the guest room. She nearly collides with Adam Bowyer as he heads through the door himself, and in a brief scuffle she wounds him in the chest before scuttling through the door.
In the East, gunshots and the ring of steel on steel fills the master bedroom. Cobane fights like a man posessed, using the furniture to stay out of harms way while he attacks. He slides under a low coffee table rather than going over or around it, coming up to swipe at Kay Hanson as she is changing clips. She collapses to the floor with a cry. Dr. Mengler sees fit to hide himself behind a thick wardrobe and wait out the rest of the excitement.*
